The Center for Learn Local specializes in place-based, community-centered, career-connected learning. We inspire and activate educators to level up their teaching practice!
We’re on a mission to transform traditional teaching.
A root cause: The traditional teaching model we’ve been using for decades in most every educational setting–from public schools to staff trainings to professional development–is no longer working.
Right now we need to shift the way we teach to create better learning–helping more students connect to their place, tap their talents and become a catalyst in their own community.
We’re on a mission to move learners from awareness to action.
The reality: We live in a hurry-scurry world where disruption and disarray are widespread. A common consequence, for people of all ages, is to become distracted and adrift.
Essential steps: Now more than ever, making time to slow down and take note of where we are matters. When we pay attention, we are able to observe what’s going on in our community–whether it’s noticing oh-so-small changes in the landscape, wondering about the longevity of local storefronts, or witnessing people doing things for the common good.
Wherever we are, developing a deep sense of place helps us become rooted. And this conscious act of ‘rooting’ allows us to care. Given the complex challenges facing communities every day, we need civic-minded people who care and are ready to make a difference at the local level.
Services
If you teach in any capacity–as a classroom teacher, trades instructor, corporate trainer, program administrator, park ranger–we can help you create better learning experiences with our field-proven methods. We design and deliver custom-crafted workshops for educators everywhere.
Resources
Our resources have been developed and refined over decades through continuous field-testing and feedback. We share unique learning models and go-to teaching tools that are usable across all content areas and in any type of classroom.
Projects
We are honored to collaborate with organizations, educators and learners all over the country. Our past projects vary in scope and scale–half-day adventures with middle schoolers to multi-year curriculum revamps with the National Park Service. We help learners own their learning by rediscovering wonder and whoa!
